Loughton Contracts, working for main contractor Mace

BACKGROUND

The project was a significant commercial development covering 18,155m² of floor space requiring extensive temporary protection for a variety of floor finishes, including herringbone timber, vinyl, carpet, latex, resin, and tiling. The site was a high-value, high-traffic environment, necessitating durable and sustainable solutions. Loughton Contracts, who are a longstanding partner of Protec, trust our expertise in providing high-performance protection solutions.

THE CHALLENGE
The primary challenge was protecting multiple flooring finishes from heavy footfall and equipment, including mobile towers, pallet trucks carrying heavy materials, and MEWPs. Certain areas required a heavier grade of protection to ensure the longevity of the newly installed surfaces. The protection also needed to be flame-retardant, waterproof, and lightweight while offering sustainability benefits.

PROJECT SOLUTION
Protec was involved early in the planning stages, collaborating with Loughton Contracts to develop a comprehensive protection strategy. Based on site needs, we recommended ProplexHD and ImpactBoard over traditional hardboard and plywood due to their superior durability, lightweight nature, and water resistance. Importantly these products also met JCoP fire safety standards and could be fully recycled at the end of the project.

In addition to supplying the materials, we supported the project with logistics planning, ensuring efficient delivery and placement of protection materials throughout the site.

THE OUTCOME
The project was successfully completed with all flooring finishes fully protected throughout the construction process. Protec and Loughton Contracts also played a key role in the project’s sustainability efforts. We recovered 9.06tonnes of protection through site logistics recycling this into new protection materails through our Proplex ClosedLoop Remanufacturing scheme.
