“ImpactBoardFR performed exceptionally well in the high traffic areas we required, throughout the fit-out phase of the project. This helped us maintain high standards across finished surfaces. The ClosedLoop Scheme at the end of the project, was straightforward and supported our objectives.”

PROJECT: Kingsbrook Academy

MAIN CONTRACTOR: Morgan Sindall

LOCATION: Aylesbury

BACKGROUND TO THE PROJECT

Morgan Sindall delivered an extension on Kingsbrook Academy primary school in Aylesbury, due to a rising demand for school spaces in the area.

The new development required protection during the fit-out stage to safeguard completed surfaces and maintain site standards ahead of handover. Key walkways and common areas were exposed to heavy foot traffic from multiple trades though out the project.

THE CHALLENGE

The site required a durable temporary protection solution capable of withstanding continuous heavy traffic for an extended period.

Protection needed to remain in place for approximately six months. Morgan Sindall were also looking for a sustainable solution, to help support waste reduction and material recovery once the project was complete.

PROJECT SOLUTION

Protec become involved in this project during the fit-out stage to recommend and supply ImpactBoardFR as the most suitable solution.

ImpactBoardFR was selected for its durability, flame-retardant properties, and its sustainability benefits.

Alongside supply, Protec coordinated the collection of the used protection materials through the ClosedLoop Scheme once the protection was no longer required. This supported the projects sustainability targets.

THE OUTCOME

Following completion, Protec collected and recycled 1,060kg of used protection material through the ClosedLoop scheme. This achieved the following environmental savings:

  • 6m³ diverted from landfill
  • 3,710kg CO₂ equivalent saved
  • Equivalent environmental benefit of 186 trees
  • Material remanufactured into the equivalent of 2,465 new sheets of 2mm RE board

The project demonstrated how effective temporary protection and sustainable recovery solutions can work together to support both site performance and environmental targets.
